The Locke Township Board met on August 12, 2025, in the Locke Township Hall, 3805 Bell Oak Road. Present: Lott, Shinkle, Shepler, Hull, Coe. Also present: Bruce Miller, Sheri Rambo
Call to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Lott followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Action on July 8, 2025 meeting minutes. Motion Hull, Second Lott to approve the minutes of July 8, 2025 Board of Trustees Meeting. PASSED {5-0}.
Approval of Agenda. Motion Shepler, Second Coe to approve the August 12, 2025 meeting agenda. PASSED {5-0}.
Action on Accounts Payable. Independent Bank checks #6753 – #6818 totaling $ 29,128.79.
Motion Lott, Second Shepler to approve Accts Pay Checks #6753 – #6818 totaling $29,128.79.

Unfinished Business
*ORV Ordinance: Supervisor Lott published the ORV Ordinance in the Fowlerville News & Views on July 13, 2025 and it became effective on July 21, 2025. Good job Board members, the community has been very excited about this.
*Township Web Page: Supervisor Lott and Treasurer Shepler met with Z Solutions on July 17, 2025 to discuss improvement on the Township’s Web Page.
*Keys Diesel: Supervisor Lott has been in touch with Mr. Keys and is happy to report that the business was moved over to their new spot (the old D&G).
New Business:
*Brandon Barrett: Supervisor Lott has spoken with the Planning Commission on this Storge Unit on Mr. Barrett’s property and we all agreed that it was against Locke TWP Ordinance, so I called Mr. Barrett and gave him the news and he asked for a 6 months grace period to move all the supplies off the property. Motion Hull, Second Lott, to grant Mr. Barrett 6 months to move everything off his property effective August 12, 2025 until February 12, 2026. PASSED {5-0}.
*Resolution 2025-05 Building Official: Supervisor Lott is looking for a motion to accept Nick Keck as the Building Official of Locke Township. Motion Lott, Second Hull to designate Nick Keck to Building Official of Locke Township. Roll call Please, Shepler yes, Hull yes, Coe yes, Lott yes, Shinkle yes. PASSED {5-0}.
*L-4029 Tax Rate Request Review: Discussion amongst the Board Members. Supervisor Lott suggested that Board Members reach out to John Cunningham (Assessor) if they need further clarification. The Board will be discussing this again at the September Township Board meeting and will ask for a vote on this issue.
*Hall Rentals & Regulations Amendments: The Township Staff recommends that these two items get added to the current Hall contract. First, 3.1- Lost key charge will be assessed to renter in the amount of $250.00 to cover locksmith services, in addition the $50.00 security deposit will not be refunded. Second, 5.11- Renter shall only be allowed to access the township hall to set up on the day of the rental. No advanced entry will be allowed. Motion Lott, Second Coe, to amend the Locke Township Hall rental agreement. Roll call, Lott yes, Shepler yes, Coe yes, Shinkle yes, Hull yes. PASSED {5-0}.
*MTA Member Renewal: The letter in your package is showing that we are all paid up and renewed for 2025.

Clerk – July rev/exp report distributed.
Treasurer –7/31 treasurer report distributed.
Trustees: No report.
Supervisor-Attended the July 22, 2025 PC Meeting and July 24, 2025 BOR meeting. He also advised that he has taken a new job at Stockbridge schools as the schools Liaison and will be coming into the office at night and by appointment during the school year Monday – Thursday. - Supervisor Lott advised more woodchips will be delivered for the flower bed in the front.
- Clerk Shinkle advised two computers needed to be ordered (Clerk and Treasurer) due to age of the equipment and the Clerk’s computer died 3 weeks ago. The Board will need to approve the disposal of the old equipment by VC3 at the September Board Meeting because the equipment is Township property.
