TOWNSHIP OF LOCKE INGHAM COUNTY

PLANNING COMMISSION PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

TO: THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE TOWNSHIP OF LOCKE, INGHAM COUNTY, MICHIGAN, AND ANY OTHER INTERESTED PERSONS:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Locke Township Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing and meeting on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, commencing at 7:00 p.m. at the Locke Township Hall, 3805 Bell Oak Road, within the Township, to consider the following:

The Locke Township Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing to consider the recommendation of adoption to the Locke Township Board of a new Zoning Ordinance. The new Zoning Ordinance consists of a comprehensive revision of the previous Zoning Ordinance originally adopted on November 1, 2005. The new Zoning Ordinance replaces the current Zoning Ordinance. A copy of the entire text of the new Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map may be purchased or inspected at the Locke Township Hall, 3805 Bell Oak Road, Williamston, MI 48895.

The following provides a summary of each of the twenty-two Articles of the proposed Zoning Ordinance:

 

Article One                      Title, Purpose, and Scope. This article presents the title, purpose and intent of the Zoning Ordinance.

Article Two                      Definitions. This article provides definitions for key terms found within the Zoning Ordinance.

Article Three                   Zoning Districts and Map. This article establishes the zoning districts and zoning map for the Township.

Article Four                     A-1 Agricultural District. This article contains use and dimensional requirements for the Agricultural District

Article Five                      Residential Districts. This article contains use, dimensional, and additional requirements for each of the Township’s residential zoning districts.

Article Six                        Nonresidential Districts. This article contains use, dimensional, and additional requirements for each of the Township’s nonresidential zoning districts.

Article Seven                    Overlay Districts. This article contains delineation and use

requirements for the Township’s overlay districts.

Article Eight                    Open Space Developments. This article contains the review and approval process, and the design standards for open space developments.

Article Nine                     Planned Unit Development (PUD) District. This article contains provisions for the application for a PUD rezoning and development standards for PUDs.

Article Ten                       General Provisions. This article provides standards and regulations that are typically applicable throughout the Township on subjects including, but not limited to, accessory uses, buildings, and structures, home occupations, and regulations for dwellings.

Article Eleven                  Special Land Uses. This article outlines the specific standards the Planning Commission will apply for identified special land uses addressed in the Zoning Ordinance.

Article Twelve                 Site Plan Review. This article contains provisions and procedures for the review of a site plan.

Article Thirteen               Site Development Standards. This article contains standards and regulations on subjects including signs, off-street parking and loading, site lighting, landscaping and screening, and waste handling and enclosures.

Article Fourteen              Nonconforming Uses, Structures, and Lots. This article includes provisions and regulations for nonconforming uses, structures, and lots in the Township.

Article Fifteen                 Zoning Board of Appeals. This article provides standards and procedures for the administration of the Zoning Board of Appeals and appeals process, including, but not limited to, membership, appeals, interpretation, variances, and hearings.

Article Sixteen                 Administration, Enforcement, and Severability. This article provides standards for the administration of this ordinance, including, but not limited to, regulations for the Zoning Administrator and Planning Commission, public hearings, and amendments.

Article Seventeen            Appendix. This article provides standards for zoning map and text amendments.

Anyone interested in reviewing the proposed Locke Township Zoning Ordinance and Locke Township Zoning Map, may examine a copy of the same by contacting the Township Clerk at the phone number or email address below hereafter until the time of said hearing and may further examine the same at said public hearing. The Draft Township Zoning Ordinance can be accessed on www.locketwp.com. Written comments will be received from any interested persons concerning the foregoing by the Locke Township Clerk at the address or email address below at any time during regular business hours up to the date of the hearing and may be further received by the Planning Commission at the hearing.

All interested persons are invited to be present at the aforesaid time and place. Locke Township will provide necessary reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed material being considered at the hearing, to individuals with disabilities at the hearing upon four (4) days’ notice to the Locke Township Clerk. Individuals with disabilities requiring auxiliary aids or services should contact the Locke Township Clerk at the address or telephone number listed below.
